That one panel took me 3 hours to wire because I skipped the manual

Installed a DSC system in a house last week and spent forever trying to figure out why the main panel wouldn't take power. Turns out I had the transformer wires swapped on the terminal block. Checked the manual after two hours of head scratching and saw the diagram clear as day. Three hours wasted over a two second look at the PDF. Anybody else have jobs where reading the manual first would have saved half the day?

That "two second look at the PDF" line hits home. It's the same everywhere not just in wiring. People skip the basics and pay for it later, then act surprised.

I mean, I kinda get where you're coming from but honestly I think people overcomplicate this whole thing. Like, the PDF exists for a reason, right? Maybe the problem isn't that people skip it, but that the PDF itself is too long or poorly written in the first place. @lee72, I've seen plenty of projects where spending two seconds on a PDF would actually just confuse people more because the info is outdated or buried in jargon. And sometimes it's faster to just figure it out as you go, especially if you've done similar work before. Idk, I feel like we act like reading every single line is some sacred duty when half the time it's just covering someone's ass legally. Maybe the real skill is knowing when you actually need to read something and when you can trust your own experience.
