Took me 3 rewatches to notice the background animation in Evangelion

I always thought Evangelion was just about the big robot fights and the heavy stuff. Then my buddy pointed out a scene where a train passes behind Shinji and the shadows move frame by frame. I went back and checked episode 5 around the 12 minute mark, and he was right. Now I catch myself pausing just to watch the little details in the background of older anime. Does anyone else get distracted by this stuff or am I just overthinking it now?

Took me 3 rewatches to notice" - I'm on my 5th and still catching new stuff in the background every time.

Okay so is this the kind of show where the background details are actually clues or just Easter eggs for fun? I mean @juliag10 has a good point about needing three watches, but honestly on my fifth round I'm getting SUPER frustrated because I keep spotting stuff that feels like it should mean something but probably doesn't. Like the pattern on the wallpaper in the third episode? That keeps changing color in certain scenes and I can't tell if that's a mistake or a deliberate thing. It's driving me crazy.

Wait, have you also noticed the wallpaper thing in episode 3? Because I went back and checked it after reading this and yeah, it does shift colors in a few scenes. @juliag10 is right about catching new stuff every time, but I think the wallpaper might actually be a production mistake since the lighting changes so often in that room. I'm on my 6th watch now and I keep finding little details that make me question everything I thought I knew. It's honestly frustrating but also kinda fun trying to figure out what's intentional.
