Tried to watch a subbed anime with my non-anime friends at a party last Friday, total disaster
I was at a small gathering at my buddy's place in Austin and convinced three friends to watch the first episode of Attack on Titan with subs. About 10 minutes in, they were all talking over the dialogue because they couldn't read fast enough, and one guy kept yelling 'What does that say?' every time a subtitle popped up. I paused the show and tried to explain the plot, but then someone spilled salsa on the remote and we lost the episode entirely. We just put on a Marvel movie instead, and I felt like a complete goof. Has anyone else tried to introduce subs to a group that just didn't get it?

Oh man, that's brutal. Trying to get normies into AOT subs at a party is like trying to explain crypto to your grandma while she's baking a pie. You're already fighting an uphill battle when you've got three people who think Naruto is a type of sushi, and then you throw in salsa on the remote. Classic. I've been there, I once tried to show a group of friends Spirited Away at a get-together and by the time the parents turned into pigs, two people were scrolling Instagram and one guy asked if we could switch to the football game.

Gotta admit @simon717 made me rethink my whole approach to sharing anime at parties.
