My uncle swore by MREs for 5 years, then we opened one from 2019 and I almost puked
He stored 60 of them in his garage in Phoenix and kept saying they never go bad, but that first bite of beef stew tasted like wet cardboard and gas. Anyone actually had luck with long term food that is not just rice and beans?
What did the outside of the pouch look like when you opened it? I ask because heat is the real killer with those things, and a garage in Phoenix in summer has to hit 120 plus easy. The mylar should hold up but the seal can go bad, and once air gets in that beef stew turns nasty fast. Was it bloated or leaking at all, or did it look totally normal until you tasted it? Also did the crackers and the candy inside hold up better than the main meal, because in my experience the wet stuff goes first.
