Replaced a dryer drum bearing with zip ties as a temp fix, now it's been a month
Honestly, my customer in Akron was desperate, the part was backordered 2 weeks, and the drum was making a horrible screech. I threaded three heavy duty zip ties through the bearing mount just to hold it steady, thinking it would fail in a day. That was 4 weeks ago and the thing runs quieter than it did before. Has anyone else rigged something that ended up working better than the actual fix, or am I just asking for a callback disaster?

Zip ties are a gamble that sometimes pays off, but the real question is what the bearing mount looks like now. A month of heat and vibration has likely worn them thin, so check them before you get a surprise. I had a similar bodge on a belt tensioner once, used a hose clamp and it held for six months, but the uneven stress wrecked the motor mount. If it runs quieter, that tells you the alignment is actually better than the factory setup, which is a red flag for why the original failed in the first place.
