Bucked a 30 inch oak with an old hatchet, not what I expected
I had a storm take down a red oak in my backyard in Austin last month, no saw on hand, so I grabbed my grandpa's hatchet and went at it like the old timers did. Took me three hours to get through a section that a chainsaw would do in five minutes, but the cuts were cleaner than anything I've made with a power tool. Anyone else ever go full primitive on a job and end up learning something weird about their technique?
Grandpa would be proud you kept the tradition alive, but also wondering why you didn't just walk to the gas station and buy a cheap saw. Three hours of swinging a hatchet in Texas heat sounds like a great way to learn patience and a terrible way to learn about your own limits. Bet your shoulder's been talking to you ever since.
