Just realized topping trees is not always the villain people make it out to be

A 30 year climber in the Poconos told me last week that a careful structural reduction on a storm damaged silver maple saved the tree and the house, but everyone in this sub treats topping like it's always murder, so has anyone else worked with a utility crew that actually did it right without destroying the canopy?

You ever see a 20 inch maple get a proper crown reduction with clean cuts, @grantschmidt, or was that just a lucky day?
