Shoutout to the guy in Bakersfield who told me to stop topping my young oaks
Kept pinching the central leader on three valley oaks because I thought it made them bush out nicer, and a retired arborist at a supply yard asked why I was slowing them down. Turns out I was forcing weak crotches on trees that want one strong trunk, so I let them run this spring and the new growth came in way straighter. Anybody else get taught the opposite early on?
