That single storm cell in Denton cost me a whole oak tree and a chunk of my sanity

Last Tuesday I got a call at 6 AM from a client in Denton saying a branch had come through their porch roof. I got there and the whole canopy was split right down the middle, looked like a giant peeled a banana and left it hanging. That little microburst came out of nowhere, we checked the forecast the night before and it said clear skies. The trunk had a hidden crack running up about 4 feet, you could only see it if you climbed up and looked at the low side. I had to bring in a second climber and we spent 6 hours rigging pieces down in pieces small enough to not touch the house. The homeowner kept asking if we could save the tree, but that split was structural, no way it held another season. Anyone else had a tree fail on a day with zero wind warning in the forecast? What do you check besides the obvious rot spots before you call a tree sound?

Buddy of mine in Fort Worth lost a huge pecan tree the same way, looked fine from the ground but the core was rotten up high. Now he climbs every survivor before a big storm, checking the branch unions too, not just the base. What about you, ever had one snap off clean with zero warning signs?
