I always thought the 'Clovis First' idea was basically settled science
I mean, I took a class in college and that was the story. But then I read about the White Sands footprints in New Mexico, which are dated to like 23,000 years ago. That's way before the Clovis people were supposed to have arrived. It totally tipped me off that I was just accepting an old narrative without keeping up with new finds. Has anyone else had a long-held belief about a discovery completely flipped by newer evidence?

Yeah, the "old narrative" thing gets me. I was so sure the Brontosaurus wasn't a real dinosaur because they said it was just an Apatosaurus for years. Felt like my whole childhood was a lie. Then they changed their minds again and said, nope, it's its own thing after all. Makes you wonder what else we're all just repeating because it's what we learned once.

Heard a friend rant for ten minutes about Pluto after they taught his kid it's not a planet anymore.

Wonder what else schools just quietly stopped teaching...
