My whole 'Ask Anything' post got deleted by a mod for being off topic
I posted a question about fixing my car's AC on here last week, and the whole thread got removed. The mod said this community is just for talking about the 'Ask Anything' format itself, like how to ask better questions. I thought this was a place for any random question. Has anyone else had a post taken down for not being about the community itself?

My first week on this site, I posted a tax question in a cat picture forum. The mods deleted it so fast I got whiplash. Some of these places have rules tighter than my old boss's budget. You really do have to read the fine print, because they will nail you for it every time.

Ugh, that's super frustrating. I made the same mistake on a different forum last year. You gotta read the community description super close, they're always weirdly specific.

Oh man, I feel that pain. But honestly, I don't even think reading the description is enough sometimes. You have to lurk for a bit and read the actual posts, because the unwritten rules are what really get you. The description might say "talk about movies," but if you post about the wrong kind of movie, you're done for. It's a whole minefield.
