I'm a newer smith, maybe two years in. Last month I had this stretch of four days where my steel kept acting weird, kinking on me, not holding heat the way I expected. I was blaming my hammer technique or the stock I bought. Finally on day five I noticed a hairline crack running across the face of my anvil near the hardy hole. Must have been developing for a while. I borrowed a buddy's anvil for a weekend and suddenly everything worked. Has anyone else dealt with an anvil failure that snuck up on them?

Picked a messy first draft over a perfect outline last night

I been stuck on this fantasy story for weeks. Kept trying to map out every detail before I wrote a single word. Had maybe 4 pages of notes but zero actual story. So last night I told myself screw it, just write the scene where the main character finds the hidden door. I picked chaos over control basically. Ended up with 800 words that are a total mess but I finally got a character talking and reacting. The outline was safe but it was also a trap. The draft is ugly but I can fix ugly. You ever have to pick between planning and just writing and regret one of them? I wish I picked sooner to be honest.

I picked up a 2003 Camry from a guy on Craigslist for $800. The radiator was cracked and leaking bad, but the engine ran smooth. I spent $120 on a new radiator and hoses, did the swap in my driveway over a Saturday. Now it's been running perfect for 4 months with no other issues. Is a cracked radiator a no-brainer fix or would you have just junked it for scrap?

Thought the vise moved, thought the tool setter drifted, even re-zeroed the whole machine. Turns out some leftover chip was stuck under the part on the back rail, just enough to push it out of square. Four hours of my life gone because I didn't wipe down the table before loading. Anyone else ever waste a whole shift on something that dumb?

Rant: Dropped $200 on that 'AI scheduling' tool and it broke my whole workflow

Saw a bunch of people raving about this automated calendar app that uses AI to find the perfect meeting slots. Figured I'd give it a shot since I'm juggling client calls and freelance deadlines. Signed up for the yearly plan at $200. First week it double-booked me three times, then it started suggesting 2am slots for a meeting with a client in New York. I had to manually override everything anyways. Total waste of money and time. Anyone else try one of these and just go back to a shared Google Calendar?

Showerthought: I was preheating my air fryer way too long this whole time

I used to let my air fryer run empty for a full 10 minutes before putting food in. Then my wife caught me doing it and asked why I was heating up nothing for so long. Turns out the manual actually says 3 minutes max for most things, and I just never read it. The food comes out just as crispy and my electric bill dropped like $8 last month.
