Noticed something weird in a rental unit I went to today

Went to fix a washer in an Airbnb near downtown and the tenant had jammed a plastic grocery bag under the agitator to stop a noise. Has anyone else seen people use garbage as a DIY fix?

Saw a similar thing on a home repair forum where someone used a soda can to prop up a broken fridge shelf. People get creative when they're too cheap to call a pro.

Oh for sure, then you get the ones who just stack random stuff on top of each other like some kind of Jenga tower hoping it holds. I saw a picture once where someone used a stack of old magazines and a DVD case to level out a washing machine that was wobbling. It actually held for months they said, until the dog knocked it over one day. The real pro moves are when they use something like a flattened cardboard tube to reroute a drain pipe (temporary, of course) or a coat hanger to hold up a sagging car bumper. It’s not always about being cheap either, sometimes it’s just that the part is backordered and you need a fix right now.
