Camped at Cherry Springs State Park last weekend and the Milky Way was so bright it looked fake lol

I was using a cheap tripod and my phone but somehow got a shot of the Andromeda galaxy that actually came out clear, anyone else ever get lucky with basic gear at a dark sky site?

Same thing happened to me at Cherry Springs back in October. I was using a little $20 tripod and my Pixel 6 pro, got a 4 second exposure of the Milky Way that was actually sharp. The key is making sure your phone is absolutely still, even a tiny breeze will mess it up. Try using a timer or Bluetooth shutter too, touching the screen while you snap it adds vibration. Andromeda at a dark sky site is totally doable with a phone if you know where to look, just use a star chart app to find it first lol.

Next you'll tell me it works better when I'm not breathing on the lens too lol.

Pixel 6 pro at Cherry Springs, nice. I use a 5 second timer on my Galaxy, zero shake. Star chart apps are life savers for finding faint stuff too.
