Remember when we used film cameras for astrophotography?

I was out at Cherry Springs State Park in Pennsylvania last weekend and it hit me how easy things are now. Back in 2005 I spent 4 hours trying to get a single good shot of the Andromeda Galaxy on Kodak film, only to mess up the development. Now with my DSLR I can take 50 shots and stack them in 20 minutes. Anyone else miss the challenge of film or am I just getting old?

Respectfully, I see it the other way. The accuracy and convenience of digital lets me actually capture what I’m after instead of fighting the process (and my own mistakes) the whole time.

Is it just me or does this whole thing mirror how we treat other parts of life now too? Like I remember learning to cook from my grandma who'd spend all day making sauce from scratch, tasting and adjusting. Now I just throw stuff in an Instant Pot and it's fine, but somehow less memorable. There's something about the struggle that makes the success stick in your brain, you know? That night you finally nail the film shot or the sauce feels way bigger than just getting a good result.
