Update: The paint match on that 2018 F-150 went from a 3/10 to a 9/10 after we switched to a different brand of midcoat.
Honestly, the factory color was a nightmare metallic, and after three tries with our usual stuff it still looked blotchy, but the new midcoat laid down way smoother and held the flake right.

Sounds like a lucky break, but that new midcoat is probably just masking a bad prep job.

Used to think that way too. Seeing it hold up for a couple years now changed my mind.
