Overheard a guy at the parts counter say he uses a dab of anti-seize on wheel studs before the lug nuts... never thought of that for preventing galling.

Is galling on wheel studs even a common problem? I've swapped tires for years and never had one seize up so bad it wouldn't come off. Seems like a solution looking for a problem. If you're torquing them right and not using an impact gun like a maniac, they come off fine. Adding anti-seize just changes the friction and can make you over-torque the nut anyway.

It depends a lot on the climate and the car. I've seen it on older vehicles, especially with alloy wheels, so I get where @ross.felix is coming from. A tiny dab of copper anti-seize on just the threads, not the taper, and then torquing carefully works for me.

My old truck had some nasty seized lugs from the last owner. A tiny bit of anti-seize on the threads made all the difference for me. They come off smooth now without fighting them.
