Walked into a salvage yard yesterday and saw a guy pulling a perfect transmission from a 2012 Civic for $150

It hit me that we spend way too much time ordering parts online and waiting for shipping when there are rows of perfectly good OEM parts sitting 30 minutes away, has anyone else actually had good luck with junkyard transmissions or am I just seeing the one success story?

That "perfect transmission from a 2012 Civic for $150" line really got me... I found a whole rear differential for my old Subaru at a yard for like $80, and it was in way better shape than the ones I was seeing online for triple that. Only took me an afternoon to pull it and bolt it in, no waiting for shipping or worrying about getting a dud from some internet seller.

Right?! That's exactly what got me too. I found a complete rear axle assembly for my old Jeep at a local yard for $60 once, had to pull it myself but it took like two hours tops. The ones online were all $250+ and half of them looked like they'd been sitting in a swamp. Plus you get to see it in person before you buy, no wondering if the listing photo was taken ten years ago. Did you end up replacing the diff on your Subaru or did you rebuild the old one?
