Appreciation post: Avionics work at a small Alaskan airport
I was up there last week and saw how they test radios in freezing temps. Their approach is so hands-on. What's the coldest environment you've worked in?

Wow, that really hits on something I've been noticing lately... we're surrounded by so much complex stuff that just has to work. It makes you appreciate the simple, physical things that still need a human touch, especially in tough places. Seeing them test radios in the cold is like thinking about your car starting on a frozen morning, you just don't think about it until it might not happen. That kind of raw, basic function feels more and more rare.

My uncle's radio worked fine in Antarctica. @sarahburns, but isn't that just engineering doing its job? We hype up basic reliability too much.
