Found out last week that 1 in 5 first dates in the US happens at a chain restaurant, and I cant stop thinking about my Olive Garden disaster in 2019
I was reading a survey from a dating app on my phone during lunch last week and it said about 20% of first dates in this country happen at chain places like Applebees or Chilis. That number hit me because back in 2019 I took a girl to the Olive Garden in Fresno and it was a train wreck from the breadsticks on. She ordered a glass of wine and then spent 15 minutes telling me about her ex who worked at a car wash, and I just kept nodding with a mouth full of pasta. The survey also said 6 in 10 people pick chains because they feel safe and predictable, which honestly makes sense since you know the menu and the parking. My question for you all is this, did your worst date happen at a chain spot because you were playing it safe, and what was the food like?
Oh man, Olive Garden first dates are a rite of passage I swear. Took a guy to the one in Modesto and he ordered the tour of Italy then complained the whole time that his chicken was dry, like dude you picked this place too. The breadsticks were the only thing that showed up that night, if you know what I mean. Chain spots feel safe but they also attract the most random people.
