His phone buzzed 4 times while we ate and I was about to walk out, but it turned out he was texting his little sister through her first panic attack, so I stayed and we split mango sticky rice instead of splitting up.

Kept reading this one twice because it hits different. Most guys texting at dinner are just bored or rude, but a kid sister having a panic attack? That is family stuff and it matters more than any meal. Ditching him would have been the easy move and you would have missed the real him. Mango sticky rice with a guy who shows up for his people is a way better story than walking out on principle.
