Tbh, my new habit of avoiding basic questions led to the most awkward dinner ever
I decided to stop asking 'what do you do for work' on dates because it felt boring. Instead, I asked about their weirdest childhood fear right after we sat down. We were at a nice burger joint, and she just froze with her menu open. She mumbled something about clowns, and I jumped in with my own story about being scared of ceiling fans. The silence after that was so thick you could cut it with a knife. I kept trying to save it by asking more oddball stuff, but she just nodded and looked at the door. Honestly, I think ditching normal chat made me seem kinda unhinged. How do you guys balance unique conversation without freaking people out?

Yikes, that sounds painfully familiar.

My cousin had the exact same thing happen with his car repair. They quoted him three hundred dollars and the final bill was over eight hundred. He said the shop just kept finding more problems once they had the car apart. It feels like they know you're stuck once the work starts. Makes you wonder how many places actually give honest estimates anymore.
