Tbh, my new habit of avoiding basic questions led to the most awkward dinner ever

My cousin had the exact same thing happen with his car repair. They quoted him three hundred dollars and the final bill was over eight hundred. He said the shop just kept finding more problems once they had the car apart. It feels like they know you're stuck once the work starts. Makes you wonder how many places actually give honest estimates anymore.

Our book club's entire discussion got derailed by a guy who insisted the main character was a ghost the whole time

We had a guy in my old book club who spent 45 minutes arguing that the butler was a time traveler. Completely ruined the ending for everyone lol.

I used to think a blowout was just a blowout until I worked at that high-end salon in Scottsdale.

Wait, you used to just blast hair with high heat for speed? That's wild to me. I can't imagine not using any tension at all. My hair would be a frizzy mess in like an hour. The cool shot thing is a total game changer though, it actually seals the cuticle. Makes total sense why the style lasted a whole week for them.

Changed my mind on cheap torque wrenches after a $80 mistake

It's funny how we learn the hard way to stop buying the cheapest version of things that really matter. A torque wrench is one of those tools where the price tag is basically an insurance policy. I've had good luck with GearWrench for a balance of cost and reliability, they seem to hit that sweet spot. Makes you wonder what other "good enough" tools in the box are actually a ticking clock, right?

Just ran my 10,000th part on the same insert edge

Totally get that. I ran a job on some 303 stainless where the book said to swap inserts at 500. I pushed it to 750 out of pure curiosity and the parts still looked great. Sometimes those tool life numbers feel more like a suggestion than a hard rule, especially if your setup is really solid. Makes you wonder how much extra life we're leaving on the table by following the monitor too closely.
