Can we talk about old school directory submissions being dead
I spent a whole afternoon last Tuesday trying to submit my site to a local business directory in Austin that used to work great back in 2018. The form kept erroring out and then I found out they got bought by some bigger company that just ignores manual submissions now. Anyone else notice these old directories just rot away instead of actually helping with backlinks anymore?

Disagree with you a bit here. Plenty of those old directories still pass good link juice if you pick the right ones. The big aggregators like Yelp and Yellowpages are a mess, sure, but niche local chambers of commerce and industry specific directories have been more reliable for me lately. Just this month I got a solid backlink from a state manufacturer's association directory that's been around since the 90s. Might be worth checking if there's a trade group for your Austin market instead of chasing the dead ones.

Did @dylan_bell ever check if that old directory actually ranks for anything besides its own name, or was it just a vanity listing?
