I wasted 11 weeks chasing directory links for a client's site before checking if the directories were even indexed
Back in March I took on a local plumber in Sacramento and built out 60 directory links over almost 3 months. I kept submitting to niche local sites and paid about $400 total on a few listings, figuring that volume would move the needle. Nothing happened, zero rank movement, zero referral traffic. A buddy asked if I had checked whether any of those directories were indexed in Google, and when I ran the site: search, 41 out of 60 were not indexed at all. Has anyone else run into this, and how do you vet a directory before you waste time on it?

A buddy did the same thing, 50 links, 6 indexed. Rough.
