My aunt gave me a 'wine aerator' that was just a plastic funnel from the dollar store

She wrapped it up all nice with a bow and everything. I thought oh cool, one of those fancy glass things that makes cheap wine taste better. I opened it and it was literally a bright red plastic funnel with some holes drilled in the bottom. Looked like something a kid would use for a science project. She said she got the idea from a TikTok video and made it herself. I poured a glass of $8 Merlot through it and it tasted exactly the same. Actually it tasted worse because I could taste the new plastic. I learned that some people really think DIY is better than buying a $10 tool that actually works. Has anyone else gotten a hand-me-down craft project that was supposed to be a cool gift?

Wait, are you sure cheap wine even benefits from aerating? I thought that was more for young tannic reds, not the $8 stuff where the plastic taste is probably doing more damage than any air.
