My cousin called the 2019 'Pet Sematary' a 'forgettable redo' and it stuck with me

We were talking about scary movies at a cookout in Phoenix, and he said the remake just felt like a checklist of the original's scenes with worse CGI. It made me realize that a lot of these flops aren't just bad, they're completely pointless... like, why even dig up that story again if you're not adding anything new? Has anyone else had a remake's failure explained to them in a way that just clicked?

My buddy said the new "Point Break" felt like a tax write-off, not a movie, and that just made total sense.

Tell your buddy he nailed it, @irisjenkins. That remake was so bad it felt like a punishment for liking the original. My advice is to just rewatch the Keanu and Swayze version, it fixes everything. Honestly, calling it a tax write-off is the nicest thing anyone could say about that movie.

But seriously, what even was the goal with that remake? Like, who asked for it?

Totally get that, the new Hellboy felt like a studio just ticking boxes.
