Rant: Whoever decided to remake "The Wicker Man" with Nicolas Cage needs to be stopped

I tried watching that 2006 version again last weekend and the bear suit scene made me actually laugh out loud, has anyone else sat through both the original and the remake just to see how bad it gets?

Honestly, the bear suit scene is just the tip of the iceberg with that disaster. Did Cage actually think screaming at bees was going to be some kind of acting masterclass, or did he just give up halfway through filming? The original had that slow, creepy build up with Edward Woodward getting more and more uncomfortable, but the remake felt like Cage just doing his weirdest Cage-isms for two hours. The way he trashes that pub while singing 'The Landlord's Daughter' makes me wonder if he even saw the original script.

@victorb17 got it right about the bees scene. I still can't decide if Cage was trying to channel some deep method acting or just really hates insects. My own theory is that he saw the original, realized he couldn't match the slow burn dread, and went full chaos mode instead. That bear suit moment hit me hard too, but the part where he screams "NOT THE BEES!" over and over? I've done similarly embarrassing things when I've had a few too many drinks at a party, just minus the CGI bees and a bear costume. Honestly the remake feels like someone dared Cage to make the worst possible version of a classic, and he took that challenge way too seriously.

Isn't it funny how panic can make anyone go full Nicolas Cage?
