Finally got my neighbor to trim his overgrown bushes after 2 years

I just noticed his hedge was blocking my driveway view and I backed into a mailbox last month. I left a polite note on his door with a photo of the damage and he actually trimmed it back 3 feet the next day. Has anyone else had luck with notes instead of knocking?

Wait, you want me to feel bad for backing into a mailbox because your neighbor didn't trim his bushes fast enough? I get that it's annoying but leaving a note with a photo of the damage feels a little passive aggressive to me. Like you could have just knocked on his door and said "hey man, I'm having trouble seeing" instead of making it a whole thing with evidence. He probably trimmed it because he felt guilty, not because he wanted to be a good neighbor. Notes feel like you're avoiding an awkward conversation but it just makes you seem petty.

Yeah I actually used to think notes like that were kinda overkill too. But seeing it laid out like this makes me realize it's probably easier for everyone to just leave a note with a picture than have an awkward doorstep conversation that might not even go well.

Last time I left a note my cat got out and ate three of their tulips.
