One afternoon last fall I had three customers return the exact same hammer model in a row

All three said it broke after hitting a nail maybe ten times, and the handles snapped in nearly the same spot. I pulled the remaining six off the shelf and checked them myself, finding hairline cracks in four of them. Has anyone else ever noticed a specific tool brand just suddenly go downhill like that?

Honestly, that sounds like a bad batch of steel or whatever they're using for handles now. Tbh, I remember when that happened with a certain brand of tape measures a few years back - suddenly every single one would snap at the 16-inch mark right out of the box. It's wild how one production run can just tank a whole model's reputation.

Ngl, I used to roll my eyes at people blaming bad production runs, but that tape measure thing you mentioned actually made me rethink it. It's scary how fast a whole batch can go south.

Had a buddy go through three of those blue handled screwdrivers in a month last year. Every single one snapped right at the base of the handle. He switched to a different brand and hasn't had a problem since.
