Serious question, have you ever talked to a non-baker about a recipe?

My sister, who never bakes, asked why I was so stressed about my pie crust being perfect. She said 'Isn't it just butter and flour? It'll taste good anyway.' That casual comment actually relaxed me for my next attempt. Anyone else have a moment where a simple outside view helped you get over a baking hurdle?

My sister once watched me weigh flour for bread and asked if my kitchen scale was for dieting. She thought I was counting calories, not measuring hydration. That moment made me realize how insane my precision must look to someone who just makes toast. It's all about perspective, right?

That "just butter and flour" comment is so true, it's easy to forget the basics.

Yeah, "forget the basics" hits home. I read a cookbook intro that said good cooking is mostly just controlling heat and seasoning properly. It made me realize how much I overcomplicate things. Getting back to that mindset really helps.
