Dropped $90 on a Japanese shear sharpening service last month and it was a total waste

I sent my favorite thinning shears to this guy I found online who claimed he could make them like new, but they came back with a weird nick in the blade and now they snag on every other cut. I tried calling him but he ghosted me after I sent the payment. Has anyone else had bad luck with mail-in sharpening or do you just use a local shop?

Yeah $90 for a nicked blade sounds like you paid extra for the "mystery damage" upgrade. Guess he figured ghosting you was part of the "like new" experience.

Ha, the "limited edition factory second" pricing model. I bet if you waited six months that knife would be listed on ebay as "custom distressed patina" for double the price.
