inVent: Had to choose between a new $450 hoist rope or splicing the old one on a Friday afternoon.
Man, that's a brutal spot to be in. I mean, a Friday afternoon call like that is just the worst. Splicing under pressure is no joke, and two hours is solid work. I've never had one fail after a weekend, but that rough ride would have me checking it every single trip on Monday. Boss really put it on you to make that call, huh.

inI bought a cheap knockoff DPF cleaning kit for $150... big mistake
Totally agree with the bake-out story. Seen it turn a salvageable filter into a boat anchor. Those pro shops have the big industrial ovens and air guns we just can't match at home.

inI've been using the wrong solvent on composite panels for years
Wait, acetone on composite? That's a big no. The manual is right, it can really mess with the resin. I switched to a simple soap and water mix for light cleaning years ago.

inAn old guy in a Daytona Beach condo showed me his original 1978 cable bill
Man, that hits different. My granddad used to tell me the same kind of thing about his phone bill. A real person would come out to fix it, no automated phone tree. It feels like we traded that personal touch for lower prices and more channels. I miss that human part of the job sometimes.

inShoutout to my cousin who told me to stop burping my hot sauce ferments
It's amazing how often the extra step we think is helping is actually the problem.
