My Gen Z intern finally understood my 'you've got mail' reference
Last week, I was showing our new intern, a 22-year-old, how to sort through old tenant correspondence archives. I made a joke about the AOL sound when we opened a particularly ancient email folder. She just stared blankly. So I pulled up a YouTube clip on my phone. After watching it, she said, 'Oh, so it's like a notification sound, but for your whole house.' It was a weirdly satisfying moment of cross-generational translation. Has anyone else had to explain a deeply millennial cultural artifact recently?
