Just wasted $40 on a 'magic' rub that tasted like salty dust
I saw a fancy ad for a championship-winning pitmaster's secret blend and had to try it. Used it on a whole pork shoulder and the flavor was just awful, totally flat and way too salty. What's a rub you've tried that actually lived up to the hype?

Wait, are you talking about the guy from that famous Austin barbecue spot? I saw a video where he literally just uses salt and pepper on his brisket. It blew my mind that something so simple could be that good. Makes you wonder why we ever bother with all those fancy ingredients. I guess it's all about the meat and the skill, not a secret rub.
