I was in my apartment kitchen and heard this loud pop. The jar lid blew off and red cabbage juice sprayed everywhere, even on the ceiling. What's the best way to clean fermented chili paste off a white fridge door?

Found a weird trick for a sticky door operator on a 90s Dover

The rollers were binding, so I tried a light spray of silicone on the guide channels, not the rollers themselves. It actually made the chatter worse until I cleaned it all off and used a dry graphite lube. Anyone have a better fix for that specific chattering slide?

Just saw the new 'Total Recall' remake and I want my money back

I paid $15 for a ticket and two hours of my life for that soulless 2012 version. It had none of the weird charm or practical effects of the original, just a bunch of generic CGI and a plot that made no sense. Has anyone found a remake that actually improved on the classic?

I actually tried the 'five second rule' with a piece of cheese last week

I dropped a slice of cheddar on my kitchen floor, which I had mopped two days before, and left it for a solid five seconds. I picked it up, ate it, and got a stomach ache about three hours later. My friend always said the rule was a joke, but I thought a clean floor was safe. Now I'm wondering if the myth is just wrong, or if it depends on the surface. I walked past the old theater downtown and saw they're showing the 2016 'Ghostbusters' again

Seeing that poster made me realize the remake wasn't a bad movie, it just had the impossible job of living up to a perfect 80s comedy, so has anyone else had a remake they hated soften on a rewatch?

My new fitness tracker bricked itself during a software update

I bought a Fitbit Charge 6 about two months ago and it was working fine until yesterday. I got a notification to update the firmware, so I plugged it in and hit start... halfway through, the screen just went black and never came back. I tried holding the button for 30 seconds, resetting the app, everything. Now it's just a dead plastic band on my wrist. Has anyone managed to fix one of these after a failed update, or is it just a paperweight now?

My old professor told me to always check the spoil pile, and man was he right

Back in college, I had this archaeology prof who was a real stickler for the basics. He'd drill into us that the most important thing you can do on a dig, besides not losing your trowel, is to sift through the spoil pile from the last shift. I thought it was busywork, just moving dirt we already looked at. Fast forward to last year, I was volunteering on a site in southern Utah, helping clear a small Anasazi pit house. The guy before me was in a hurry and dumped his last bucket without checking. I remembered the old lesson and ran my fingers through it. Found a perfect, tiny turquoise bead, about the size of a pea, that he'd missed. It was the only piece of jewelry from that whole unit. That bead changed the whole interpretation of the space. Anyone else have a simple piece of advice from training that saved your bacon later on?

Salvaged a lens mount from a junk drawer find to fix a classic camera

A buddy dropped off his dad's old manual focus SLR with a wobbly lens mount. The original part was discontinued years ago. I had an old broken zoom lens in my junk drawer, and the mount looked close enough. After some filing and careful alignment, I got it to fit and secured it with tiny screws. Most repairers would probably tell you to hunt down an exact match or scrap the camera, but I think sometimes a functional fix is better than nothing. It's not museum quality, but the camera works and my buddy was thrilled. For gear that's not worth a full restoration, I'm all for making do with what you have. How do you handle repairs when original parts are impossible to find? Is there a line where improvising becomes unprofessional?
