Rant: dropping $80 on a fancy new pillow gave me the worst neck pain of my life

I thought I was treating myself to some premium shredded memory foam thing from a boutique store on Elm Street but after three nights I could barely turn my head and had to go back to my lumpy old one from Target, anyone else regret a trendy bedding splurge?

Same thing happened to me with a $70 "orthopedic" pillow from some online ad. That thing was like sleeping on a brick wrapped in microfiber. Woke up with my neck completely locked up for three days straight, had to cancel my gym sessions. Went straight back to my old flat pillow from Walmart that cost like twelve bucks. Those fancy pillows are just marketing hype for something that doesn't work for most people.

Stick a rolled up towel under your neck for a few nights and see if that helps, @julia_miller24. My chiropractor told me about that trick after I spent a fortune on a memory foam thing that made everything worse. The towel gives you way more control over the height and firmness than any pillow ever could. It's the cheapest fix I've found for that locked up feeling.

My $180 Sleep Number pillow says otherwise, sandrat. I tried the towel trick for two weeks straight and ended up with a knot in my shoulder blade that took a massage therapist three sessions to work out. The problem with towels is they flatten out overnight and you wake up at 3am with your head tilted at some weird angle. Not saying memory foam is perfect but at least it keeps its shape all night long.
