Saw something wild at the bike park in Boulder last weekend

Everyone swears by using a torque wrench for everything, but I watched a guy there tune a full suspension with just a basic multi tool and it rode perfect. He said he's been doing it that way for 12 years and has never had a bolt strip. I get the safety thing, but maybe we overthink some of this stuff. Has anyone else seen a pro mechanic work without a full torque spec sheet?

Honestly, I used to be a total torque wrench guy for every little bolt. But seeing a mechanic at the Whistler bike park do a full brake bleed and lever adjust with just a T-handle really changed my mind. He had this feel for it from years of working on the same bikes every day. Makes you wonder how much is science and how much is just practiced skill.

Man, that reminds me of my old boss who could tell if a headset was loose just by the sound the fork made when he dropped the front wheel. Some guys just live in the bike.

Wait he did a brake bleed with just a T-handle? That's wild, those fittings are so easy to strip! I guess after a thousand bikes you just know the exact click feeling in your fingers.

Exactly. @holly420, that click feeling is everything.
