The wire doesn't deserve the hype it gets
I sat through all 5 seasons because everyone kept saying it was the greatest show ever made. For me it felt like a really long documentary with no payoff. The characters were interesting but the story just meandered around for hours. Am I missing something or does anyone else think it's overrated?

My buddy Mike who works down at the supply house watched the whole thing twice and talked my ear off about how deep it is. He said you gotta pay attention to every little thing because it's all connected like a spider web. I wanted to like it but I kept waiting for something crazy to happen that never came. He tells me that's the point, the system is the real villain not any one person. To me it just felt like watching people make the same mistakes over and over with no real change. I respect what it tried to do but I agree with you it gets more credit than it earned.

Man I feel that. It's like you're supposed to be impressed by how smart it is but if you gotta have somebody explain why it's good, maybe it's just not that good. Sometimes a movie's just slow, you know?
