I learned the hard way that tongs can make or break your work

I was forging a simple hook last month and my tongs kept slipping. It was frustrating and dangerous. I realized I'd been using the same old pair for years without thinking about it. After that, I made my own tongs to fit the stock I use most. Now my work is so much smoother and I don't drop hot metal anymore. If you're having issues, check your tongs first. Don't wait for a scare to fix it like I did.

Yikes! That's one way to learn a lesson, with flying hot metal! It's hilarious how we all just put up with bad tools forever. You were basically wrestling with your project instead of holding it. Custom tongs sound like a game changer, no more playing catch with something that can burn you. Good on you for fixing it before anything worse happened. Honestly, it's a solid reminder to check your gear before it checks you!

What made you finally build custom tongs, @the_kevin, instead of just dealing with it?

Seriously, good tools just make everything less of a fight.
