My forge welds went from 50 percent fail to almost none after I swapped one thing
Six months back I was getting maybe half my forge welds to hold, and it was driving me up the wall at my little shop in Dayton. Turns out my fire was running way too oxidizing, so I built a bigger coal bed and let the metal soak longer before I brought the two pieces together, and the difference was night and day within two weeks. What are you all running for your fire height and soak time when you do a lap weld?
Man, nobody ever talks about the coal itself and that was my whole problem. I was using this cheap stuff that popped and sparked like crazy, so I switched to a better grade and suddenly my fire stayed steady instead of me fighting it the whole time. What kind of coal are you burning?
