Stopped by the diner on Maple Street and watched three separate tables of Gen Z kids send back their club sandwiches because the bread was too thick

My waitress said she's seeing it more and more, like somewhere along the line we forgot that a real sandwich actually needs some structure. Has anyone else noticed portions getting sent back for weird reasons, or is it just this one place?

Feel you man, that's rough. Kids these days just don't get that a good sandwich needs some backbone.

Been noticing the same thing at the sandwich shop near my office. Thick bread is actually what holds everything together and keeps the fillings from making a mess. I think what's really going on is that a lot of Gen Z grew up on those super processed soft breads from chain restaurants and fast food. They never learned that real bread has some chew and structure to it. Plus a lot of them are used to everything being cut super small and neat, so a hearty slice of rye or sourdough probably feels overwhelming to them. It's not really about the bread being "wrong" its just a different expectation of what a sandwich should be.
