Dad's 10pm vacuum rule gave me insomnia for a decade
Growing up, my dad had this thing where he would vacuum the whole house at 10pm sharp, every single night. He said it was the only time the carpet fibers "settled." I thought it was just his weird quirk, until I moved into my first apartment at 21 and realized I couldn't sleep without the sound of a vacuum running. I literally bought a cheap $30 one and ran it in the hallway for 15 minutes just to nod off. My roommate thought I was insane. It took me two years and a white noise app to break the habit. Has anyone else inherited a sleeping quirk from a parent that you didn't know was a thing until you tried to sleep somewhere else?
Man, that vacuum thing is real. My old man ran a fan in the hall every night and I couldn't sleep in college without one, so I just started leaving a fan on low and slowly moved it farther from the bed each week until I didn't need it.
