A strange find at the Portland airport's game shop

I was stuck on a long layover and wandered into the little hobby store near gate C12. They had a whole shelf of 'collector's edition' Monopoly sets priced over $100 each, but the worker said they never sell. It made me wonder if these fancy versions are for actual players or just for show. Do you think stores should stock more games people actually play, or are these display pieces part of the hobby too?

Collector's edition Monopoly sets" are just airport tourist traps. They're for people who forgot to buy a souvenir, not for real game nights. The store probably makes more money selling a few of those than a bunch of normal games. It's not that deep.

Ngl the airport tourist trap line is so true. I saw a Star Wars one for like eighty bucks last time I was flying, it's wild. Those things just sit on a shelf to show you went somewhere, they never get played. My regular Monopoly box is taped up from all the fights, that's how you know it's real.

Honestly those are just fancy boxes for people who hate their family less than the rest of us. They're banking on someone with too much money and a guilty conscience.
