Vent: I just realized I've been storing my board games vertically for 5 years

Pulled out my copy of Terraforming Mars last night and half the cardboard tokens were warped from the weight stacking down on them over time. Anyone else wreck their games before figuring out horizontal storage is the way to go?

My buddy Kevin did this with his copy of Gloomhaven, the big box. He stacked it vertical for like 3 years and when he finally opened it, half the map tiles were bent like potato chips and the monster tokens had little curves in them. He tried to flatten them out under heavy books for a week but they never sat right on the board again. Ended up just buying a whole new set of cardboard tokens off eBay for like 40 bucks. Now he stores everything flat and has a little label on his shelf that says "no stacking stupidity allowed.

Come on, vertical storage is fine if you know what you're doing. Kevin probably just crammed it in there with all the air gaps and loose pieces shifting around. I've had my copy of Gloomhaven vertical for two years now and everything is mint. You just gotta make sure the box is packed tight with no empty space and that its sitting on its side with the heavier bottom facing down. Same deal with my Kingdom Death box, that thing is a brick and its been on its side since 2018 with zero issues. People blame the storage method when really its just bad packing.
