Hit 100 members in my book club last night and I'm shook
We've been meeting at the library annex in Tacoma for about 14 months now, started with like 6 people from a Reddit thread. Last night we had 100 people show up, which sounds insane because our usual is around 30 or 40. Turns out three different neighborhood groups added us to their calendars and it just snowballed. Someone brought folding chairs from their car and we still had people sitting on the floor near the poetry section. The debate was about whether the narrator in our latest pick was unreliable or just selfish, and honestly 40 people talking at once was chaos but the good kind. Has anyone else's club grown that fast without you really trying to market it? How do you keep discussion quality when it turns into a crowd like that?
My book club can barely get 6 people to agree on a snack let alone a whole narrator debate, so 100 sounds like a dream and a headache at once lol. Maybe split into smaller groups after the first hour so everyone actually gets a word in?
