Our book club's 'choose your own adventure' vote ended with us reading a 700 page fantasy novel about sentient mushrooms

The choice was between that and a short mystery set in a bakery. I picked the mushroom book because the cover art looked cool. Now we're two meetings in and half the group can't keep the spore characters straight. Anyone else's club ever get stuck with a weird pick because of a fun voting idea?
