The way our book club talks about characters changed after we read 'The Secret History'
I mean, for the first six months, our group's chats were pretty basic, like 'I liked her' or 'he was a bad guy'. We read 'The Secret History' by Donna Tartt last month, and something just clicked. Instead of just saying if we liked Bunny or not, we spent a whole hour arguing if Henry was really in control or just as lost as everyone else. Someone brought up a line from page 312 about his gloves, and it turned into this whole thing about symbols. Now, when we picked our new book, people were already looking for those small details instead of just the plot. It's like we went from talking about what happened to talking about why it happened. Has your group ever had a book that totally changed how you talk about stories?

That's a cool shift. Did anyone push back against the deeper analysis, or did the whole group just get on board with it right away? I'm curious if someone had to lead the charge on looking at the symbols.
