Hot take: Super expensive linen thread is overhyped
Broke two needles last week using $18 per spool linen thread from a popular supplier. Switched back to my $4 cotton thread from a local shop in Portland. Holds just as tight. Anyone else find cheap thread works better for tight spines?

Is breaking needles really that deep? Thread is thread.

Doesn't cheaper thread just snap faster though?

Three spools of the fancy stuff and two broken needles later, I felt like a total clown trying to be some kind of artisan. @rose_hart you ask if breaking needles is deep, but when you've got a stack of books with spines tighter than my budget, it kinda is. The cheap cotton from Portland works smooth and holds up just fine. I bet the expensive thread is really made for people who want to feel like they're in a fancy magazine spread, not for actual mending. My hands aren't delicate enough to tell the difference anyway.
