Had a chat with a master gardener at the farmers market

She told me I was watering my tomatoes wrong for 10 years. I thought a little bit every day was the way to go, but she said deep watering once or twice a week is better for the roots. She said my plants were probably getting shallow roots from my daily sprinkling. I tried it for two weeks and the difference in leaf color was wild. Has anyone else had a random stranger give them a tip that actually worked better than what they learned from books?

Marigolds always seemed like a grandma thing but yeah... I was wrong too.

@emmaj33 same with my buddy, swore by eggshells in the soil and it actually fixed his blossom end rot.

Took my mom's advice about planting marigolds next to my vegetables after she insisted for years it would help with bugs. I always rolled my eyes at her old school tips but yeah, she was right. The aphids basically vanished from my squash after I put in a border of marigolds around the whole bed. Now I feel bad for all the summers I spent fighting pests when it could have been that simple. It's funny how the little things like that can make such a big difference.
